Night Shade – OBW #98 from If These Threads Could Talk

I love this fabric, it’s Coleus by Philip Jacobs, for the Kaffe Fasset Collective. I thought it was meant to be a One Block Wonder.

The fabric is darker than what is shown. I had to lighten it to get a photo.

It made some beautiful hexagons. I decided to call it Night Shade. I added one 12″ Quad 60 Star and nine 6″ Quad 60 Stars, made using the Star 60 tool and Quad 60 Techniques Sheet. I always use Island Batik fabrics to make my stars and cubes. Night Shade measures 62″ x 69″.

Call of the Sea – OBW #97 from If These Threads Could Talk

My favorite panels to make OBW’s with are by Josephine Wall.

Call of the Sea

Call of the Sea panel measured 35″ x 43″. I cut 3.25″ strips which yielded 5″ finished hexies.

I created a barrier reef for my mermaid using Studio 180 Design’s Star 60 tool, along with Quad 60, Framed 60, Capped 60, Checkerboard 60 & Hollow Cube 60 (not yet released) Technique sheets. My Island Batik stash is like having the BIG box of crayons. They are my go-to batiks to add color and interest to my OBW’s and all my quilts.

July Goals from Sew........This Is My Blog

Since I accomplished my June goals, after failing to do much at all in April and May, I think I might have enough mojo now to set my goals for July.

I started on a One Block Wonder in September of 2019.  Yikes!  That's embarrassing.   Okay, it needs to come off the UFO list soon for sure!   I started quilting it around then, but got discouraged shortly after that (with Covid and life, not just with quilting) and set it aside.  I had quilted all the blocks in the center of the quilt but not the borders.

It is ...

Chrysanthemum Quilt from If These Threads Could Talk

For the last year and half I been experimenting with Deb Tucker’s Star 60 Tool and adding stars and cubes to One Block Wonders (OBW).

Chrysanthemum Block

This block was created by the Studio 180 Design Brain Trust. I call it the Chrysanthemum. I put it in my OBW Star Chamber.

I wanted to see what the Chrysanthemum block looked like as a quilt.

I am offering a two part Zoom class. Each class is approximately 3 hours. The first class you will Identify, cut & align your repeats. You will then cut your equilateral triangles. The 2nd class is scheduled at least two weeks later to give you time to stitch your hexagons and sort ...

One Block Wonder - construction tips from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

New protective cover on the phone - Check!

Fitbit app is back syncing - Check! I had to uninstall that app and reinstall it. Then it asks me something about running the apps in the background. I have to figure that out since it affects Libby, which I use for listening to audiobooks. It has something to do with saving battery, but what or how? But at least that app is now working.

That leaves ONE left - the calendar. DH tested it with his phone, and it works, so it must be some setting that I've changed? I don't CHANGE ...

One Block Wonder with a panel from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I'm under control! Or should I say - I'm in control? Either way, I have most of the prep done for the classes this weekend. I believe all or most of the sewing is done - it's just a question of putting the pictures into the various presentations and trying to get the written homework done so it can be sent out in a timely fashion. I must say that it feels good to be in control, but there's still a lot of work to do to get all that information organized and in the correct presentation!

As ...

Let it go!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

A quick recap of the One Block Wonder stuff -- The Tree of Life panel set is gone. And I think it went to the right person. Remember the panel?

The Tree of Life panel

I do believe I found the perfect person to take this off my hands! This person has a TON of the coordinating fabric but no panel. She can now make a beautiful One Block Wonder or Stack and Whack and add cubes, borders, etc., with all those coordinates.

Coordinating fabric to the Tree of Life panel

The animal panels are also gone. I haven't responded ...

One Block Wonder from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh boy -- I just unearthed a treasure trove.

But first - if you remember, I could NOT find those darn panels that I had purchased several years ago, and it was niggling in the back of my head. Where could I possibly have put them? Then, while I talked to Carol about One Block Wonder quilts yesterday, the location literally flew into my head. The moment I got off the call, I ran downstairs and put my hands on them! And it was in the logical place - I just didn't search well enough the first time - that's the problem ...
